In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.
Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.
As we dive into the book of Isaiah, what better way to start than with the words of our Savior, Jesus Christ. We are reading this week the beginning of Isaiah, Isaiah chapters 1 through 12. And if I'm being honest here, I appreciate that we actually have kind of some targeted limited chapters as our last several weeks, maybe even month and a half or so, have just been these massive chunks of readings.
So well done diving into your personal scripture study. This week we got some manageable chapters here: Isaiah chapters 1 through 12. And then, of course, because we got this limited, focused set of chapters, I decided today to begin in 3 Nephi instead.
So our verse for today is going to come from 3 Nephi chapter 23. It's going to be our Savior speaking directly about the words of Isaiah. I thought it was an appropriate way to get into the study of Isaiah, especially considering the prophet Isaiah's words as, across scripture, the most quoted prophet and the most recorded, or I should say, the most quoted set of chapters, comes from the book of Isaiah across New Testament, Book of Mormon, and Doctrine and Covenants as well.
So perhaps worth turning an eye and our focus towards these words. So what is it the Savior said to us or at least to the Nephites of the day and then through them to us? 3 Nephi chapter 23 verse 1. Jesus Christ has just shared with them a section of Isaiah's words in the previous chapter, and then we get verse 1, which says this: "And now, behold, I say unto you that ye ought to search these things.
Yea, a commandment I give unto you that ye search these things diligently; for great are the words of Isaiah." The Lord tells us we ought to search these things, and then he adjusts that and says, "A commandment I give unto you that ye search these things diligently; for great are the words of Isaiah." My friends, I look forward to diving into the Book of Isaiah this time. I think more so than previous times, especially when it was on the front end of the Book of Mormon in season one. Isaiah chapters always make me nervous going through the Book of Mormon.
Welcome to the Biblical History Podcast, I, your host, Allen Roberds. I am grateful for prophets, ancient and modern, a living prophet today that speaks to us just as Isaiah spoke to his people at the time. And there's more to come inside of that as we get through our Isaiah chapters this week.
But that is all for today, my friends. You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith, and let's be savory salt. We will be here tomorrow, and we hope you are too.
