In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.
Hello my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.
Here we are, less than a hundred days left in this season, and I think I'm just barely starting to understand Nephi, who's not even in the reading this week. I hope I can explain inside of our readings this week with Isaiah chapters 40 through 49. I talked yesterday about the perspective of these chapters being from the lens of a loving parent and it's created quite a stir of emotion for me quite honestly.
I've tried to kind of collect my ability to sit here and do this episode and some interactions with family members from the episode 'Nathanael R. R.' So what I'm going to try and do is connect this here just a little bit and see if it helps you and your journey as well. And ultimately I hope it gives us a couple of steps we can take inside of our journey to be a little more savory salt as we go forward.
Our verse for today is going to come out of the Book of Mormon, even though we're in the middle of our Isaiah chapters. And it's going to be in a section where Nephi is going to give us some Isaiah writings. If you back up to typically the way that it's talked about the Isaiah chapters in the Book of Mormon, many people are like, where are you in the Book of Mormon?
And people are like, well, I'm in the Isaiah chapters and everybody kind of does a collective, oh, ooh. But I have to tell you, in studying the Old Testament this year and then coming up on the Isaiah chapters, they've meant something to me. They've meant more to me than I think I've ever understood them before.
And so today I share with you a thought from Nephi, 2nd Nephi chapter 11 verse 2 is our verse for today. And now I, Nephi, write more of the words of Isaiah. For my soul delighteth in his words, for I will liken his words unto my people, and I will send them forth unto all my children.
For he verily saw my Redeemer, even as I have seen him. Now it's quite an impressive witness here from Nephi and Isaiah and their witness of seeing their Redeemer, seeing the Lord. But it's before that that has really seemed to land with me this time with this verse.
My soul delighteth in his words. I will liken his words unto my people. I think this time as I've gone through the book of Isaiah, one, I've definitely delighted more in more of the verses.
And I've tried to talk as we've gone through them as a family and say to my girls, hey, as you're reading Isaiah, if it's getting jumbled, it's okay, but try to grab just the sentences, the phrases, the sections that do make sense and listen to them because they are powerful. Some of those verses have been turned into incredible songs and hymns and praises and poetry throughout the decades and the millennia since it's been written. So my soul delighteth here and I think my soul delighteth more in Isaiah now than it has in the past.
And I don't know if that's just more maturity in the scriptures for me. I don't know if it's perhaps understanding it through the lens of the Old Testament better. I'm not sure if it's just a daily study of doing this a thousand consecutive days.
Maybe it's all of the above. My prayers, my seeking for the Spirit, daily repentance, all the things. The Bible is a challenge to the people.
I see them making choices that take themselves away from the Lord. I see Isaiah promising that the Lord is, yes, going to chasten them, but then is also going to gather them and give them his love and surround them with protection. And I look forward to those days and I see those days in my own life.
So my friends, today I hope I can join with Nephi a little bit more in saying, hey, I'm enjoying the Isaiah chapters. For my soul delighteth in his words, and I will liken his words unto my people. I hope this journey with Isaiah has been that for you as well.
And I wanted to just share this one from the Book of Mormon today in the hopes that you and I can lean on not just these records, Thank you for watching. Thanks for watching!
