Show Notes

Join Allen Roberds in this Savory Salt episode as he explores Isaiah 8:11, challenging listeners to reflect on their spiritual walk. Discover how choosing to follow the Lord naturally sets us apart from the world and how our daily lives can testify of our discipleship. This reflection encourages a conscious effort to 'walk in the way of the Lord' rather than simply 'the way of this people'.

Key Points

  • Allen Roberds reflects on Isaiah 8:11, an instruction from the Lord to not 'walk in the way of this people'.
  • The episode challenges listeners to consider if their actions and demeanor visibly identify them as disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • It emphasizes the importance of choosing to follow the Lord's path, which inherently distinguishes believers from secular societal norms.
  • Listeners are encouraged to identify areas in their lives where they can more consciously align their 'walk' with the Lord's teachings.
  • Discipleship means embracing a different way of living that reflects a commitment to Christ, making us 'savory salt' and 'light of the world'.

Hopefully, you can find one or two areas—I know that I have—where I can walk more the way the Lord walks and walk a little bit less the way that 'this people' walks.

In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to Him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.

Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.

When it comes to the way you walk, can people tell who you are by the way that you're walking? I don't mean that necessarily literally, but today we're going to talk about it perhaps figuratively. I've enjoyed reading Isaiah chapters 1 through 12 this week.

And there are, we get into a section here. We're going to have overlay from season one. If you have gone through season one, or if you haven't, right around season one, days 63, 64, 65, somewhere right inside of there.

You also going to have some other Isaiah chapters as many of these Isaiah chapters overlay with Second Nephi. So just be aware that what I tried to do is select different verses from those verses, but those are some additional ones you could go back. We're going to talk about some of the context in Isaiah 8 here.

There's this kind of moment of conversation between the opposing armies where they're almost, or the people that Isaiah is referencing here, the people of Judah, are kind of hollering back. They're kind of doing a war cry, kind of a shout out of sorts. And it goes a couple of verses through here.

And I want to hold this context when we dive into the verse. So as we dive inside here, our verse for today is Isaiah chapter 8, verse 11. What I just been referencing is kind of 8, 9, 10 range, that area there.

Verse 11 says, "For the Lord spake thus to me with a strong hand and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people saying," and then we got the saying in the next verse. This one stood out to me, actually. It's kind of an interesting, I guess, perspective here: this context, this footnote here that "with a strong hand" is "with power." So the Lord is speaking to the prophet here in power and saying, "Do not walk in the way of this people." And that got me thinking about the way that I walk.

Again, not literally, but the way I present myself, the way I show up. Do I walk in the way that someone might look and say, "That there, that's a disciple of Jesus Christ?" And even if they don't put their finger on that, do they look in the way that I walk and say, "You know, Allen's different." Or do they simply look and say, "You know, I don't seem to stand out at all because I just walk in the way of 'this people.'" It's got me thinking about a lot of different areas, and I suggest for you to kind of go through that process as well and decide, where in your life are you just walking the way of everybody else? Where are you walking in the way of "this people," so to speak, versus walking in the way of the Lord?

I think when we choose to follow the Lord, we automatically stand out inside of a crowd. Thank you for watching. The worldly secular successes that the world says to have versus walking the way of the Lord—what that looks like.

Hopefully, you can find one or two areas—I know that I have—where I can walk more the way the Lord walks and walk a little bit less the way that "this people" walks. Just some food for thought for today. That's all for today, my friends.

You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith, and let's be savory salt. We will be here tomorrow, and we hope you are too.
