In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world, reminding us that our lives are meant to preserve, illuminate, and point others to him. This season on Savory Salt, we'll walk through the Old Testament, one verse and one thought each day. Perhaps these moments will add greater savor and brighter light to our lives as we seek to truly live as Savory Salt.
Hello, my friends. It's a new day with new opportunities. Choose ye this day whom you will serve.
Have you ever heard the phrase whether you think you can or you can't, you're right? I've got a little bit of a play on that one today as we dive into the tail end of Isaiah chapters 1 through 12. There are a ton of Isaiah chapters in this tail end of our readings 9, 10, 11, 12 that focus on the messianic view through Isaiah.
Talking specifically about Jesus Christ and his role, what it's going to look like when he comes, what it's going to look like when he comes again, what it's going to look like in between when he's gone. So we get a lot of cool insights in there. Inside of Isaiah 11, I was just kind of looking through this idea about what the world's going to be like in the millennium.
Once Christ has come and we're going to kind of have a different standard of living, right? As the Lord comes. And so I'm going to connect these pieces together.
First, our verse for today is Isaiah 11, verse 9. The Bible says, "They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea." Now that sounds amazing to me. Did you notice the front end of that?
We have this nobody hurting nor destroying in all the holy mountain. So this hurt and destruction goes away, and why does it go away? It goes away because the earth is full of the knowledge of the Lord.
That got me thinking about just the idea of the knowledge of the Lord. For many people, you may run the assumption that everybody on the earth has heard of Jesus Christ, for example. And so as I was pondering on this, it brought me around to this quote from Elder Rasband.
President Nelson draws upon years of serving the Lord. His maturity, wide-ranging experience, wisdom, and consistent receipt of revelation is specifically suited for our day. He has said the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is preparing the world for the day when the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord.
He, referencing the scripture we just did. This work is empowered by a divine announcement made 200 years ago. It consisted of only seven words: "This is my beloved Son.
Hear Him." President Nelson has also said there's never been a time in the history of the world. A little bit of a twist here. This context here, this idea that destruction and hurt are gone when the world is full of the knowledge of the Lord, had me really thinking about that concept I gave you at the beginning of this episode.
Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right. Well, my friends, I kind of want to adjust that a little bit. Whether you think you're holding up a light or not, you are.
The question is, which light are you holding up? For some people, the light is the light of Jesus Christ as they try to do their best and live as true disciples of Jesus Christ. I hope you and I are inside of that, that light holding realm of people.
My friends, all of us, whether we think we do or we don't, are holding up a light. I hope in my interactions with others that I am holding up the light of Jesus Christ. I hope that I'm able to, even through Savory Salt, spread a knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ to other parts of the world so that we can ultimately help to bring that day about where there shall be no hurt nor destruction on earth.
What a beautiful day that could be. So, my friends, today, pick a light. What light will it be for you?
Because one way or the other, you're going to shine a light today. I encourage you to consider into what it may look like to hold up the light of Jesus Christ. That's all for today, my friends.
You and I have come here for such a time as this. Step forward in faith and let's be Savory Salt. We will be here tomorrow and we hope you are too.
